The second day of UPH Festival 23 on August 19, 2016, was made special with the public lecture by Indonesian Military Chief, Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo. This session was held in the Basketball court of UPH Lippo Village, Karawaci at 09.45 ? 11.00 with around 5000 participants, consisting of 3.637 students, 800 staff and lecturers, 1.000 UPH College students, and some guests.
The seminar was opened with welcoming greetings by UPH Rector, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc., by explaining briefly about implicit hope behind the theme of UPH Festival 23, which is ?Reach Further? as an invitation for all new students of UPH to serve in every corner of this country through the realm that they are passionate about.
This session was followed by brief elucidation by General Gatot Nurmantyo about the threat towards Indonesia, for being one of the biggest energy sources. General Gatot opened his lecture with a fact from UNESCO and Malthus theory about the growth and availability of energy resource. |

In his session, General Gatot gave a lot of explanation by showing the statistical data on population growth and conflict area all over the world. He said that one of the biggest conflicts is the energy resource, and the fact is that some of the conflicted countries are the biggest oil suppliers in the world. The peak of this conflict is predicted to happen in 2043 where there will be the crisis of food, water, as well as other energy sources in the world, and all the countries on the equator which have an abundant source of energy including Indonesia will also be threatened by conflicts.
New students of UPH as the participants of this event was so enthusiastic. It could be seen by their willingness to answer the questions from General Gatot Nurmantyo on the solutions and conflicts which would probably happen in Indonesia caused by the energy crisis. He also summed up all the answers from the participants by explaining the ultimate solution to handle conflicts that could happen, from the geographic and demographic aspects.
From the geographic aspect, General Gatot explained that Indonesia has to be an agrarian, maritime, and also the industrial country in order to solve the conflict as well as the resource crisis. Whereas by the demographic aspect, Indonesia must be able to maintain the local values with mental revolution based on Pancasila.
?We must build Indonesia together to become an agrarian, maritime, and industrial country by maintaining it from the people and for the people?, he said.
As the closing point of his lecture, General Gatot explained to the students about their main duty of coming to the university, most importantly that all the young people including students are motors for the movement to achieve a secure country.
General Gatot also added that university students are the highest level of learners, therefore all the university students must keep their main goal of coming to this place, which is to study and achieve big dreams.
?Achieve your dreams and goals. Eight things you must remember and do every day: to pray, dream big, focus on your dream and target, stay optimist, make actions, flexible, well-behaved in socializing as well as chasing knowledge, put your heart in everything you do, and keep learning. Students are the agents of change, be the unifier for this country?, General Gatot conveyed his hope.
To close the public lecture, UPH Founder, Dr. (H.C.) James T. Riady saying his thanks to General Gatot Nurmantyo and all the members of Indonesian Military who had conveyed positive values for UPH new students. Other than that, he also conveyed his hope for the new students to keep developing their talents as well as fulfilling their calling to become blessings for this country. All the series of the public lecture was closed with souvenir exchange between UPH and Indonesian Military, followed by the photo session.
