On the first day of the 23rd UPH Festival, Thursday, August 18, 2016, the new students of UPH were introduced to the Student Activity Units. Obviously, a college student?s life is not just going to class and then going home after that, there are a lot of activities that students can do after class is over. These activities are facilitated by the campus for students to grow their talents, abilities, and potentials.

The session began with an opening from Novel Priyatna, the Director of UPH Student Life Department, who delivered three important points for the new students: UPH as a Christ Centered campus, the vision and mission of UPH, as well as the motto of UPH?s student, SMART (Study, Maturity, Abstinence, Responsibility, Talents).

He explained that in this campus, students are facilitated with a variety of departments which will accommodate the student activity units, there are Service Learning Center, a department that facilitates students who want to get involved in social services in education; Spiritual Growth and U-Speak Department, a department which facilitates students? spiritual life aspect; up to the Sport Department which includes a variety of sport activities.

According to Stephen L. Metcalfe, MA, the Director of the Sport Department of UPH, college life is not just about academics achievement, a college student also needs to do physical activities ?Students also need to take a break from academics and they could do some physical activities to loosen up a bit. Here, everything is facilitated, you just have to enjoy it,? he stated.

As a campus who carries the ?Drug-Free Campus? movement, the new students of UPH were being encouraged to commit themselves to support the program.

?You have to remember why you were here; you came to this campus to study. Aside from studying, you could also join the activities in UPH according to your interest and your talents. I want to encourage all of you, to support this movement by staying away from S.A.D, Sex, Alcohol, and Drugs,? said Novel.

For students who preferred organizational activities, the 23rd UPH Festival Committee introduced several organizations in UPH, such as Student Representational Council (SRC) as the highest legislative organization in UPH and Student Executive Board (SEB) which focuses of Student Activity Units.
