UPH Rector, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M. Eng. Sc., Attended the Scholarship Day on the 23rd UPH Festival

Lippo Village, August 20, 2016 ? UPH Festival was held for three days, from August 18 to 20, 2016, and it was continued with Scholarship Day, a socialization regarding scholarships program in UPH, for parents and High School students around Jabodetabek. The event, which carried the theme ?Discover Your Calling?, was held at the D501 building at the Karawaci Campus of UPH. This event was held to help parents and 12th-grade students who are about to continue their studies to University for the next Academic Year of 2017/2018, and are looking for scholarship paths.

?UPH is a Christ-Centered University, with Christian Faith as its foundation. Due to that reason, we are going to teach all of our students to seek for knowledge and truth altogether. Aside from that, UPH is a holistic university, which means that we don?t teach students to ace their academic, we reach out to other aspects which will also help them to find their calling,? said Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc., in his opening speech.

According to the theme, in this event, participants were encouraged to know their own calling. The Vice President for Academic Affairs of UPH, Gunawaty Tjioe, B.Ed., M.Pd., Ph.D. explained that the purpose of going to college is not just merely to look for a job in the future, but it is to fathom one?s calling. ?The purpose of going to college for the first time should not be ?to look for a job in the future?, it needs to be more than just that. We are going to college to find our calling. Because, when God gave us talents, each of us has to work hard to use that talent for our calling.? According to him, there are four ways to find one?s calling, they are setting a goal, praying, knowing your interest and talent and lastly, planning the path towards our dream.

In the next session, Ir. Budhi T. Yuwono MPd. MM explained about the four categories of scholarships, they are Platinum (100%), Gold (75%), Silver (50%) and Bronze (25%), which could be obtained through three ways: Academic Achievement, Limited Financial, and Sport Achievement. Moreover, there was also some testimony from two scholarship students in UPH; they are Calvin Adriel, Industrial Teknik Industri 2015 and Angela Wiselyn, Communication 2014.

?UPH is a holistic university and during my two years of studies in this place, I did not just get lectures which enhance my academic abilities, I also got to learn about the healthy spiritual and physical mindsets, which makes me wholly human,? said Angela Wiselyn in her testimony.

Through this event, UPH hopes that the scholarships which have been given would not just be a ?scholarship?, but also a mission of blessing for the nation and to bring glory to the Lord. (hc)
