All Parents Attended the Parents Gathering as a part of the 23rd UPH Festival

As a part of UPH?s commitment to providing the best education and character building according to its vision and mission: True Knowledge, Faith in Christ, and Godly Character, UPH promotes the involvement of parents within the education process of their children. This was the reason why ?Parents Gathering? was held every year during the welcoming of new students.

This event was held on the last day of the 23rd UPH Festival, Saturday, August 20, 2016, at the Grand Chapel of UPH. At the occasion, approximately, 1500 parents were present and all of them were welcomed by the Rector of UPH, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc., along with the Assistant Rector as well as the Dean of the Faculty.

Jonathan L. Parapak, Rector UPH

In his speech, the rector talked about holistic education and the role of parents and family in an education process. ?UPH accentuates the importance of holistic education, where parents are the main role. All parents and UPH is a partner, we are all a partner of UPH. Hopefully, since the first day of UPH Festival, you all could at least know that UPH had explained the meaning of a holistic education, where the spiritual aspect is included,? said the Rector.

The Rector underlined three important points, which parents had to notice. First of all, a parent has to be the main supporter for their children holistic education, parents have to commit that their children are going to obtain holistic education. The Rector also said that parents have to know the talents of their children, so that the through their studies and their choices in university, they can develop their talents and therefore, glorify the name of the Lord.

Secondly, aside from being actively involved in their children?s holistic education, parents were also encouraged to take notice on their children?s place to stay during college (for those who came from other cities). Parents should make sure that their children are in a safe environment. ?If you have a hard time in deciding a place to stay for your children, we have some great reference for a place to stay through our Student Life Department, so that we can help you to choose the best place for your children to stay,? said the Rector.

Third, students? academic results are always submitted online and hopefully, parents would know about those things to be able to respond to it and so they can see their children?s progress in UPH. The Rector mentioned that there are many information in UPH?s website, which could be accessed by parents.

?UPH develops its students through holistic education and we encourage them to be successful individuals in the future. But, truthfully saying, what is the meaning of success?? asked the Rector shortly.

?Success is not about getting a job after graduating from college. It?s not about getting a high rank at work or even making a lot of money. The real success is when our children are successful as whole and in an honorable way, so that by the end, they could achieve their life goals. We are a team in delivering our children to complete their studies well and for them to grow in a maturity of mind and faith,? explained the Rector.

To end his opening speech, the Rector opened a Q&A?s session for parents, which was warmly responded with several questions from them.

?I thank you all for trusting your children in choosing UPH, thank you for all the critics and opinion, may all God bless all of us, for the family and glory of the Lord, God bless you,? said the Rector as he ended the session.
