The Faculty of Science and Technology (FaST) Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) strengthened its synergy with industries partner by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Asuransi Jiwa Manulife Indonesia, which was held on Friday, October 7, 2016.

The Signing was done by UPH Rector, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc. along with the Senior Vice President Deputy Chief Actuary of PT Asuransi Jiwa Manulife Indonesia, Mr. Rodney Coelho, FSA, FCIA at UPH Karawaci Campus, Tangerang. The ceremony was also attended by the Assistant Vice President Head of Corporate Social Responsibility of PT AJ Manulife Indonesia, Roberto C. Sumabrata; Vice Rector of UPH Finance and Administration, Hana Herawati; Dean of FaST, Prof. Dr. Manlian Ronald A. Simanjuntak, ST., MT.; Assistant Dean of FaST, Dr. Helena Margaretha, M.Sc.; Director of Administration and Student Affairs, Andri Panjaitan, ST., MT.; Head of Applied Mathematics Department, Dr. Kie V. Ivanky Saputra.; and the Manager of Alumni and Corporate Relations, Dharamanita Kusumaningrum, as well as a number of FaST students representative.

Dr. Ivanky explained that the cooperation itself was based on the realization upon the need for actuaries in Indonesia, according to Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK) who aims to a rate of 1000 actuaries by the year of 2018. But in reality, there are only about 200 PAI (Persatuan Aktuaris Indonesia) certified Actuaries, with 4 of them being SOA (Society of Actuaries) certified for international certification.

Through this cooperation, PT AJ Manulife Indonesia aims to prepare students through trainings by experts and supporting literatures, to make them even prepared for SOA certification test. With this collaboration, PT AJ Manulife also wants to give the opportunity for the students of Applied Mathematics UPH to join the internship program, to support actuarial program socialization in schools as well as the development of the actuarial club as a student organization, including actuarial seminars.

Both UPH and PT AJ Manulife Indonesia hopes that this cooperation could answer the need for certified actuarial professionals in Indonesia and hopefully, this cooperation could increase the amount of students as well as actuarial professionals, who would be interested in continuing their studies in Applied Mathematics UPH.
