The Faculty of Computer Science UPH, which has been changed into SISTech (School of Information Science and Technology), has keep raising students? interest towards Information and Technology (IT) through various activities, such as PROLOG (Programming and Logics), which was specially made by High School students. PROLOG has been held for several years and this year is the fifth time for this event to be held, and just like before, this event has been attracting lots of participants.
This year, approximately 105 students from 30 schools participated in PROLOG. Every school was allowed to send more than one students to be participants. There were three schools with the most number of participants: Sekolah Dian Harapan with 15 participants, SMA Negeri 1 Depok with 10 participants and SMAN 8 Tangerang with 8 participants.
In this competition, participants would have to answer two kinds of questions. The first were logical questions, such as the sequence of numbers, pattern, reasoning and much more, whereas the second ones were programming questions which include problem-solving strategy for computer programming.
?There were 150 applicants, but only 105 of them were qualified. From this, we could conclude that High School students have a rather high interest towards this competition. Computer Science might not be a part of the curriculum for High School, but some school let their students, who have the interest in IT, to explore this subject as extra lessons or a club. Thus, it’s not surprising that IT related activities are interesting even more High School students,? explained Arnold Wibowo, Head of PROLOG 2016 Committee.
Unlike the previous years, this time, students from both private and public High Schools around Jabodetabek, participated in the event. All participants have to follow the written test for the preliminary round, held on October 26, 2016. Then, 20 participants from 12 schools were chosen to continue to the final round on Wednesday, November 1, 2016. The adjudicator team for this competition are computer science experts from SISTech UPH, among them were Dr. Ir. Samuel Lukas (Head of Adjudicators Team), Dr. Benny Hardjono, Arnold Aribowo, S.T., M.T., (Head of Computer Science Department of SISTech UPH), Louis Khrisna Putera Suryapranata, S.Kom. M.TI., Frans Panduwinata, S.Kom., M.T., Dion Krisnadi, S.Inf, S.SI, M.TI., and Robertus Hudi, S.Inf. According to Arnold, in general, participants? ability to answer questions was pretty exceptional, which could be seen from how they answer the questions given. Through this competition, Arnold hopes that High Schools students? interest and passion towards IT could grow even more.
