Dr. Mochtar Riady: Education as the Groundwork in Recognizing Changes

Dr. Mochtar Riady in Business Leader Speaker Series

Dr. Mochtar Riady, Founder of Lippo Group, was present as the keynote speaker in Business Speaker Leader Series, which was held for the first time by UPH Business School. In this event, Dr. (HC) Mochtar Riady, gave an inspirational message to approximately 2,500 participants who filled the Grand Chapel of UPH Karawaci, Tangerang, on November 17, 2016.

As a keynote speaker, Mochtar Riady hopes that he could inspire all participants through his message. He stated that all individuals have to be able to recognize the changes that happen around them, in order to survive the world developments. Especially in business, companies as well as industries have to understand the directions of every technological development. Companies who are able to recognize these changes and adapt to it are the ones who will be able to survive and even advance themselves.  Mochtar also stated that only those who put education as their priority, will be able to recognize these technological changes.

?Upon recognizing the importance of change, I want to remind everyone that only those who prioritize education will recognize the changes of technology. Thus we can say that education is the groundwork for almost everything, thus I paid a great attention towards education. Moreover, every people also have their share of roles, be it as entrepreneur, parents, children as well as students. Each role has to be accompanied with a sense of responsibility. For example, all of you UPH students are responsible in being competent graduates. Then, as a citizen we have to be responsible and be able to bring good impacts for our country,? Mochtar stated.

Aside from that, Mochtar also shared a global insight on changes regarding the latest political issues which might affect the economics. As an example, he explained about the election of Trump as the President of America which has turned America into a ?shut the door? nation. According to him, this will bring great impacts for America, who used to be the pioneer of economics along with China, because now, the world?s economy will only be oriented towards China. Looking at this condition, Mochtar explained that Indonesia, be it the government, entrepreneurs and all layers of the society has to realize this fact and began drawing up measures for the economy as an approach with China.

Lastly, Mochtar Riady also shared his experience to the students of UPH Business School. He shared an inspirational saying, ?to hear a hundred times is no better than seeing something once?. According to the saying, Mochtar said that the Business School of UPH has to enhance the quality of its students through opening access for students to have direct collaboration with industries and for them to see the real-life condition in those industries through the collaboration of Business School UPH and its partnering companies. Therefore, students of UPH Business School are different; you are able to have some real-life experience in through their involvement in industries, compared to reading theories. According to Mochtar, this is the best method for UPH Business School in advancing its students.
