The highlight of the 2016 Online Scholarship Competition (OSC), which was launched by Metrotvnews.com on September 2016, was held on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Kuningan City, with approximately 1,000 guests
On the occasion, Abdul Kohar, Editor in Chief of Metrotvnews.com, conveyed his gratitude towards all parties who have participated in showing their concern towards education.
?Education is the supporting and forming pillar for the nation?s character. Education is the candradimuka for world civilization. This realization has brought Metrotvnews.com in continuing the online scholarship program. Last year, with all of our limitedness, we could only grant 50 scholarships. But this time, with great participation and enthusiasm from partner universities, this program has been able to issue 200 scholarships from 10 universities. Once again, Thank you for all 10 universities and Avitex as the sponsor of our program,? said Abdul.

An opening speech was also conveyed by a special guest, Prof. Intan Ahmad, Ph.D., Directorate General of Education and Student Affairs, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti). He conveyed his appreciation towards the program initiated by Metrotvnews.com, by keeping in mind that education is an essential aspect upon the answers towards the need for skilled and professional human resources in Indonesia.
According to him, such awareness towards education will indeed need hard work and cooperation with various parties, just like in this OSC. He hopes that all the students who were present at the event will not focus merely on their academics during their college years, but for them to have the willingness to learn and understand the issues within their country, in order for them to contribute to their nation.

The last remark was given by Dr. Ir. Bastari, M.A., Chairman of Educational Data and Statistics and Culture from the Ministry of Education and Culture, who present a set of data regarding the tendencies in the higher education world.
?The Continuity Rate for Junior High to Senior High students has reached 94%, but it?s kind of surprising to see the rate for Senior High student who continue their studies to University, which only reach 43.86%. This is what we need to work on. We have to keep advancing the education in our country through involvements between public elements and the society. So hopefully, this kind of competition can inspire other kinds of multi-party engagement, which will eventually raise the number of students who would be able to continue their studies to University, and to enhance the quality of education in Indonesia,? stated Bestari.

Some tips and motivation were also given to OSC participants by an inspiring figure, Merry Riana, who is known through her ?Million Dollar Dream?. At the occasion, Merry said that as young adults, they have to possess three strengths to achieve success.
?As a young adult, you have to be strong. There are three things which I would like to say to you all today. Firstly, you have to strengthen your mind, which means that, you have to dream big, you have to survive and be brave to take the first step, even when there?s a price to pay. Secondly, you have to strengthen your heart; while surviving is not enough, we have to strive for our dreams. We can start from the little things. With a strong heart, we will have perseverance as well as the ability to complete what we have started at the first place. Thirdly, we have to strengthen our faith, be doubtless about your dreams and most importantly, just believe that we have God who will always be with us through every steps we take,? said Merry as she gave inspirations and motivation for the students.
