UPH Granted 20 Scholarships through OSC Metrotvnews.com Program

Once again, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) participated in the Online Scholarship Competition (OSC) which was held by Metrotvnews.com. This year, approximately 6.797 High School students participated in this competition

Once again, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) participated in the Online Scholarship Competition (OSC) which was held by Metrotvnews.com. This year, approximately 6.797 High School students participated in this competition.

 

In 2016, the amount of participating universities had gotten up to 10, which includes 5 universities from Jakarta such as UPH, Universitas Al-Azhar (UAI), Universitas Mercubuana, Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN), Universitas Trisakti; 3 universities from Bandung such as, ITENAS, Maranatha Christian University, Telkom University and 2 Universities from Yogyakarta, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan and Universitas Krida Wacana.

 

Aside from the rising number of participating universities, on this second year, the amount of scholarship granted through this program has also increased up to 200 scholarships, with 20 for each university. For UPH itself, 20 scholarships seats were offered for 8 majors such as Accountancy, Management, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Communication, Political Studies, Information System and Computer Engineering.

 

The OSC program was started with an online test on November 6, 2016 in Jakarta, Bandung and Yogyakarta, with the results announced on November 10, 2016. After the test, all applicants had to do a verification test during November 20-25, 2016, for this step, applicants? data was sent to respective universities. After the self-verification test, on November 28, 2016, 50 best applicants from each university were chosen, in other words 500 applicants had successfully passed the online test and could follow the offline test on December 5, 2016. After that, 20 best applicants from each university were chosen to receive the scholarship.

 

The winners of the OSC were announced right after the offline test with a symbolic scholarship which was handed-over by the leader of respective universities. This event was held in Kuningan City and was attended by approximately 1,000 guests, including students from High School who participates in the OSC, parents, universities? representatives, as well as sponsors and other guests.

 

Aside from the bestowal, also attending was: Editor in Chief of Metrotvnews.com, Abdul Kohar; Directorate General of Education and Student Affairs, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti), Prof. Intan Ahmad, Ph.D.; along with Chairman of Educational Data and Statistics and Culture, Dr. Ir. Bastari, M.A. who gave their appreciation speech.

 

After a tight selection process, UPH decided to grant 20 scholarships to eligible participants among 564 applicants and 464 verified applicants. These students obtained certificates, which were given by Budhi T. Yuwono, Senior Assistant to Rector UPH, to symbolize the scholarship during the Awarding Night. Among 20 participants, Evania from SMAK Penabur had successfully become the best score, with a prize 1 unit of Laptop from Metrotvnews.com. (mt)
