Once again, UPH Choir has successfully brought UPH name to the world with the three gold medals they have achieved flourishingly during Bali International Choir Festival (BICF) 2017 which was held on July 14-20, 2017. This was the first time for UPH Choir to follow BICF, and they had successfully managed to bring 2 gold medals for Folklore category and 1 gold medal for Sacra category.
BICF 2017 was followed by 8 countries, including Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, and China. This competition was divided into 17 categories based on several categories such as ages and gender, music type, and music entertainment. UPH Choir took part in two categories: folklore and Sacra music.
UPH Choir brought a number of choral works such as a classic work entitled ?Exultate Deo? and ?Ave Maria?, for the Sacra music category, as well as ?Bubuy Bulan? and ?Marencong-rencong? for the Folklore category.
This accomplishment is very surprising as for UPH Choir members consists of 2015 and 2016 students, who had never performed in such a big event. UPH Choir Team has 30 members which consisted of 9 sopranos, 8 altos, 7 bass and 6 tenors. |
?At the beginning, we join the festival to test our team performance capability as a preparation for bigger competitions. Turns out, the result was beyond our expectation, and we managed to get 3 gold medals. In fact, we have only practiced for a rather short amount of time, only 3 months,? said Irene Christiani, a student of Management 2014, Head of UPH Choir.
Surely, it wasn?t easy to prepare the team for a competition. In the middle of their packed schedules in campus, they would still have to practice intensively for 5 days a week, for a total of 3 months. Under the guidance of Tutu Sukendro, who has led UPH Choir since 2015, the team successfully achieved a number of accomplishments both national and internationally.
Aside from competing, the participants of this event could also follow a number of activities such as choral education, and various social activities such as friendship concert, choir collaboration and gala concert. (fj)
