X International Poster Trienniale is an international poster exhibition held by the Ukranian Graphic Designers Association. This triennial concept is related to the issues of unharmonious relationships between human beings and nature, seen through the eyes of a woman, mother, and children.

The X International Poster Trienniale poster exhibition is endorsed by Ico-D International Council of Design, and was held on April 24-May 28, 2018, in Kharkov, Ukraine. The event, which is held once every three years, has been held starting from 26 years ago, and features the works of poster artists from different countries all over the world, while also exhibiting the newest ecology-themed poster achievement. The collection of posters is divided into 4 categories: women/peace, children/hope, cats + love, and art of data.

This year, there were 3000 posters from 40 countries sent in, but only around 200 were chosen to exhibit. Among the posters exhibited is the work of Eston K. Mauleti, UPH Visual Communication Design lecturer, entitled ?Play, Learn, Fun?, in the children and hope category. Eston?s poster visualizes a child playing in a field while looking at a butterfly. This visual is a social criticism towards the fact that children should have had the right to enjoy the beauty of mother nature and have fun interacting with nature. However, most of the time, this cannot be obtained in a conflicting world. As a result, children often become the victim.

This is not the first time Eston?s works have been featured in an international event. Several of her other works have been featured in catalogs, namely the poster exhibition in Germany, Korea, and Ukraine. Some of her works has also been selected to be exhibited in international poster exhibitions in Jamaica, England, Czech Republic, Germany, Venezuela, Iran, China, Estonia, Korea, and Ukraine.

Eston admits that making it through the selection process of this competition is not an easy task. Because of that, he prepared specific strategies for each competition he joins – carefully reading through terms and conditions, understanding the theme of the competition, looking through galleries from previous competitions, and getting to know the judges. Then, he will look for ideas that go with the specified theme and is also in line with today?s situation and pour them all out visually, in a way and style that is acceptable internationally. He believes that the judges pay great attention in whether the visuals fit the theme, whether they are artistic, eye-catching, and has attractive color elements.

The internationally-recognized achievements he has garnered help Eston K. Mauleti establish himself as an international poster artist. Being a lecturer, he also wants to keep on using his skills in the practical world outside of class. His goal is not for mere popularity, but also to measure his abilities in the field.

?What I did for this competition is also studied by the students in my class, one of them being in the Basic Studio class. This subject teaches a lot about visual metaphor and symbolism. This subject teaches the basics of understanding art and its skills, as well as abstract design, the basis of all the Visual Communication Design sciences, and how to apply those principles in abstract illustrations. By doing this, everything that I teach will always be up-to-date with what is going on outside of class ? in fact, it is up-to-date with the international world. I always share all this with my students,? he explained.

In several occasions, Eston encouraged his students to participate in competitions, both national and international ones. One of these is the ?Cultural Heritage? event held at @amerika in Jakarta. Four of his students joined the competition, and 2 of them made it through the selection process.(rh)
