UPH as a university that prioritizes holistic education wishes that its students not only care about their academic side but also able to develop their character. One of them is also about nationalist character and spirit, care for the nation. Through the course of Citizenship from the Faculty of Liberal Arts (FLA), the students were briefed on the “History of the Struggle of the Nation of Indonesia” and the “Values of the Struggle of the Nation of Indonesia” given directly by the Veterans Legion of the Republic of Indonesia (LVRI).

Friday, March 9, 2018 at MYC Multipurpose Room UPH Lippo Village, LVRI Party present to give a material about “History of the Struggle of the Nation of Indonesia” submitted by R.M. Erwin Tjokrosantoso and the second material of “The Values of the Struggle of the Nation of Indonesia” was delivered by Major General TNI Marines Retired Nono Sukarno. In this day’s debriefing also attended by the Vice Chairman of LVRI, Major General Saiful Sulun.

At the end of the seminar, the two speakers conveyed a message to the UPH students to always strive to be a change agent to bring this nation to a better direction. Besides, they also advised that the students as the next generation of the nation can always learn to deepen the ideological values of Indonesia so that cannot be easily scattered as the unity of the nation.

M. Kusuma Wardhani – Student Services Manager of UPH stated that this activity is important for students as Indonesian young generation.

“This material we think is necessary to know the students as a young generation, as well as able to answer the needs of the implementation of the citizenship courses. In addition, the interesting thing is the students get a direct exposure from the warriors of the history of the struggle of the Indonesian nation itself? explained Kusuma Wardhani.

He also explained that this activity is a form of merging between the Citizenship courses in the FLA with activities that undertaken in the Service Learning Project. This event is one of the realizations of the cooperation between Service Learning Division and LVRI in this semester (January-April 2018).

Service-Learning Division itself is a party that can bridge the students, lecturers, and also related agencies, for the implementation of the Service Learning Project. Service Learning Project is a learning method for the UPH students to be able to implement their field of science into an act of community service. Usually, community service activities are conducted by students in locations that have become partnerships of UPH Service Learning Division such as schools, study course (bimbel), orphanages, communities, and social foundations.

With this activity, students look so enthusiastically, this marked by the many questions about Indonesian nationality. It is expected that students who attended, in the end, can socialize the material to the Service Learning Division and other parties partnership, so this national message can be understood also by the wider society. (mt)
