Product Design Fair UPH ?EUREKA? Presents Material Exploration Workshop

Art has always been an interesting thing to explore and develop. Looking at this fact, School of Design Universitas Pelita Harapan (SoD UPH) has been kept trying to facilitate students? development, one of them is through Product Design Fair, an annual event of SoD UPH. This year, Product Design Fair UPH took the theme ?EUREKA? with various workshops options offered in July at UPH Karawaci.

As the Head Committee, Eliza Aristanto (Product Design 2014) said the EUREKA itself is a phrase that is said when one has a new idea. In this particular event, the ?new idea? is represented by how the students explore certain materials and create products from them. Departing from that theme, students of Product Design SoD UPH proudly present their creative and innovative works to the public. Aside from that, while showcasing their works to the public, they also shared the things they have learned in class and they also explain the creative ideas behind their products.

During the event, there are a number of workshops which was held and was divided into two kinds of the workshop: internal and external. The internal workshops, which were mostly attended by students, were: Lino Cut, Calligraphy and Clay Modelling in the intermediate level. The external workshop was held for the public, and was taught by lecturers and the students of UPH; these workshops include Leather & Pottery on June 28 ? July 10, 2017; Jewelry Clay on July 24-25, 2017; and Tapestry Weaving on July 21 & 26, 2017 at Building B UPH.

One of the external workshop which was held was tapestry Weaving, which was facilitated by the students of SoD UPH, and was followed by 40 participants including students, lecturer, and the general public. Tapestry Weaving itself is the art of making woven works which will usually be used as wall decoration.

 ?We choose all of these workshops because these four workshops contain materials which have been learned previously during college, and we can share these basic knowledge to the public too. According to the theme as well as material exploration, we want to let people know about each material that they have used, what could the material become and what about the material itself,?  Eliza Aristanto explained.

Through this event, Eliza admitted that EUREKA was able to challenge her as well as the students of SoD UPH to create and design an even more optimized and ready to sell products, and also toexpose . 

students to the market. One of the efforts which have been done to expose the students of SoD UPH to the market is an exhibition in Plaza Indonesia, which was held on Thursday, July 27, 2017. This exhibition became a place where students were able to showcase their works as a SoD student, and also to become a part of the Grand Opening of Product Design Fair.

Moreover, representing the committee, Eliza hopes that through what has been prepared by UPH Product Design and which have been shown through this workshop, could be useful for many people.  (FJ)
