After the 3D Cinema Lecture for neurologists and doctors on last August, now, the UPH Faculty of Medicine gave the opportunity for approximately 1000. Instead, this time students from various universities around Indonesia, as well as other countries, such as Malaysia and Philippines, also participated in this public lecture. This public lecture was brought by the Dean of UPH Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Dr. dr. Eka J. Wahjoepramono, Sp.Bs., Ph.D. in a 3D format, with the topic ?The Amazing Brain and The Potential Catastrophe?, on October 15, 2016 at the Ultra XD Cinemaxx, Maxx Box Lippo Karawaci, Tangerang. In His Lecture, Prof. Eka, Explained about the Amazing Complexity of Human Brain Structure. ?The structure of our brain is the one which differ us from animals. Humans have neo-cortex, the outer layer of the brain. Aside from that, a grain of our brain consists of 100,000 neurons and a billion synapses and also, our brain needs 20% out of the total energy that we use,? Prof. Eka explained. Aside from the amazing structure, through the 3D video, it was also shown that human brain has two amazing systems. The first one is brain plasticity, or the ability of brain to reorganize, after an injury or the experience of pain. Secondly, our brain has brain?s blood barrier. It is the ability of our brain to block out toxic or dangerous substances (in medicines) upon entering the brain. But of course, even with such ability, our brain is still damageable. One of the main reasons for brain damage is smoking and thus, Prof. Eka encouraged all students to not smoke, in order to keep their brains healthy. For a better explanation, Prof. Eka presented various cases of brain disorders which he has ever handled and also explained the cause of brain damages such as Giant Aneurysm, Brainstem Cavernous Angioma, brain tumor, stroke and Blood Vessels Disorder called AVM (Arterio Venosa Malformation), a congenital disease in which blood vessels are ?tangled? within the brain. During his explanation, he also shared the techniques he used to deal with those cases, accompanied with a 3D neurosurgery video of him doing the practice; through this method, participants could feel as if they were actually witnessing the surgery itself. ?Through this public lecture, there is one things that I want to point out. Time is Brain; it means that we could not be late in knowing what?s going on inside our brain. Thus, doing a regular check-up since early days, in qualified hospitals, is a very important thing, in order to avoid any unwanted situation and of course, for early prevention. And also, for all of the future doctors here, this public lecture is not given to you only for the knowledge, but we want to give you a stimulus, for you all to grow more interest and be more independent in exploring brain components, and of course, so that all of you can grow to be a greater doctor than me,? said Prof. Eka as he ended his explaination.
