UPH Introduces Design at Workshop for High School Students: Touch, Feel, and Design

According to Elya Kurniawan Wibowo, S.Sn., M.A., Dean of School of Design, the workshop held on 10 April, 2015, aimed to introduce High School students to the uniqueness of the Design field, which in fact is in need of highly capable individuals to fill the demand for workers. One required skill is being able to observe an object and then create a new design for the product. Moreover, a design should be implemented so that a particular object can bring effectiveness to human activities.

With that concept in mind, the UPH School of Design brought to the workshop a unique concept, one where students were challenged to be creative in designing a new product after observing an object as it is typically implemented. The instructor of this workshop, Ruben Haris Lukito, S.Sn., had all participants divide into groups of three persons. Their eyes were then covered and they were given an object for which they must use their sense of touch to observe and interpret. Subsequently, the object?s concept could be implemented through the design of a new product.
