Food Explore 7 Showed Food Creation from Indonesian Natural Resources

The annual event of Food Technology Department, Food Explore held again with ?Cultivate The Nature, Empower The Life? as its theme.

The annual event of Food Technology Department, Food Explore held again with ?Cultivate The Nature, Empower The Life? as its theme.

The annual event of Food Technology Department, Food Explore held again with?Cultivate The Nature, Empower The Life? as its theme. This annual event became one of the excellent programs from UPH Food Technology Department. It is due to its unique food innovations which is created by the students and can be tested by public. The theme ?Cultivate The Nature, Empower The Life? was chosen because the potential of Indonesian Natural Resources that can be used for making various foods.

Budi T. Yuwono as Vice Rector officially opened this event on November 5th 2014. There were also other faculty leaders, Andri Panjaitan (Director of Faculty & Students Affair FAST), Helena Margaretha (Dean Assistant FAST), Julia Ratna (Head of Food Technolgy Department) and some lecturer from Food Technology Department who attended this opening ceremony. After the opening ceremony, the leaders were asked to look the food innovation in Innovation House.

 

 

?Food Explore was held to expose students? innovations from UPH Food Technology Department. Besides that, we hoped that this event can be the medium to produce excellent researchers and produce excellent product?, explained Budi Yuwono in his speech.


Every year, Food Explore comes with Innovation House that display the various foods from UPH Food Technology department students. In this year, the Innovation House chose Natural Ingredients as its theme, where every ingredient comes from natural resources.

For example, they displayed Nutshroom Nugget (made from peanut and mushroom with high protein, 18 amino acids and fiber), ChiCake (cookies that made from chicken legs flour with high calcium and collagen to prevent osteoporosis, maintaining bone and skin elasticity), and Kroepoek ?Aoeng? (crackers made from Aung sweet potato or known as Gembil sweet potato, that rich in fiber and antioxidant).

?By making the Innovation House every year, the students become enthusiast to involve in Innovation House activity. They do research in laboratory and apply the lessons they learn in class?, said Helena Margaretha.

Beside Innovation House, there were also competitions for college and senior high school students, such as : Food Science Olympiad, Food Innovation Competition, and National Undergraduate Paper Competition. The band performance from UPH students also enlightened this Food Explore 7. (sn/ev)
