Sharing knowledge and experience of Maicih success by Reza Nurhilman
 

On Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in Building D 503, BEM ? Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa (Student Executive Body) under the Development, Supervision, and Reasoning Department held I-FEST (Innovation Festival) Seminar. Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Growth were the theme of I-FEST in which consisted of two events: seminar, which was held from April 17 to April 18, 2013, at UPH and the Innovation Expo, which was held from April 19 to April 21, 2013, at Grand Indonesia (GI).

The first day of I-FEST featured a young successful entrepreneur in building a business by making chips with cassava as the ingredient, Reza Nurhilman. He is the owner of the spicy chips, Maicih. According to the Head of the Event Committee, Fernando Fenlee (Industrial Technology 2011), I-FEST aims to facilitate the students as the preparation for entering the working phase. For example, gearing up for interview, preparation before entering work, making a good CV, and tips for students who wish to make their own business. Aware of the importance of these preparations, the committee organized this event and invited Reza, as one of the successful entrepreneur with his Maicih chips.

?The reason why we choose Reza as the speaker is because we see the innovation in this Maicih Chips. From a simple thing like cassava, often underestimated, but in Reza?s hand, this cassava-based food becomes so famous and successful in the public with its spicy signature. Because of that, we want to learn from him,? explained Fernando.

When interviewed, Reza explained the spiciness level of Maicih. There are three levels of spiciness, level 3, level 5, and level 10. These levels are the hallmark that made Maicih Chips becomes special, because it challenges the people adrenaline that eats this chips, and it makes a difference from other cassava chips.

 

 

  Reza Nurhilman, well known as AXL, explained the beginning of Maicih, which started in June 29, 2010. Located in Bandung, it began from Reza?s hobby that enjoys spicy food, than the idea to create a local food by using cassava emerged. The cassava processed into something that is special with a challenging spiciness, different from any other. That?s the story behind the Chips Maicih which has successfuly gained a total omzet of 4-5 billion rupiah. In addition, not only the different taste from other cassava chips, the method of selling is also different. By using direct selling, and then through the social media platform, he made an imaginative country called Negara Keripik Republik Icih (NKRI) where the resellers called ?General?. Besides ?General?, NKRI also has Ministers and Governors. Reza explained that this unique approach is applied for promoting the Maicih Chips. He added, in selling Maicih Chips, he tried too make the consumers become curious of his product. ?Because when we made consumer curious, it will open up a good market for the product,? he said.    
 

With his creativity in making Maicih, Reza has achieved many awards from various party ; university and organisation that invited him as the speaker, The Marketers in 100 YWNS category as the New Wave Marketing, the magazine ?Gadis? in the category Spiciest, Radio Ozzie Bandung and Seputar Indonesia as a nominee in the category Entrepreneur.

With his success and creativity in marketing and creating a unique product, Reza gave tips and suggestions for UPH?s student who wish to follow his achievement, ?In creating a business, having courage is a must because it is very important. Then, forget about prestige. Because of the prestige does not produce a prestigious life. Therefore, you do not have to put on airs for selling any products. What important is you have to be courageous and spirited, believing the product that we want to sell will be a boom in the market,? Reza stated. (lat/lau)
