The Faculty of Science and Mathematics of UPH (FSM-UPH) invited a guest lecturer from Netherland, Dedy H. B. Wicaksono, in a long distance learning program on Monday (4/05).
Dedy Hermawan Bagus Wicaksono was born in 1974 in Surabaya – Indonesia. He got his B.Eng degree, with honour (cum laude), from the Department of Engineering Physics, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB Bandung), Indonesia. His undergraduate research thesis was “Characteristics of SnO2-based CO Gas Sensor Made from Oxidized Sn Thin Film”.
Since March 2003, he joined Electrical Instrumentation Laboratory at Delft University of Technology as a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Paddy J. French. His main research interests are Biomimetic Sensors, Physical Biosensors, MEMS, Nanotechnology, and other interdisciplinary research subjects.
This long distance learning program involved students from the year of 2005 to 2008, and also graduate program students of FSM. Some of the topics taught were differential partial equality, applied mathematics, and basic physics.
For UPH, using technology to make learning process more effective is a must. One of the FSM teachers, Helena, said that this learning system would affect the students? knowledge development significantly.
?With this system, we get the lecture directly from the expert whose knowledge?keeps on being?updated. We study applied mathematics and we need foreign experts, because there aren?t so many in here,? Helena stated.
UPH E-learning Division Manager, Riyanto Purboyo, said UPH?had the adequate infrastructure to execute the long distance learning system, and it had been used quite often. He also pointed out that it is also important to maximize the performance of this system.
?If we look forward, specific lessons taught by experts are needed to improve UPH?s educational development, it is also needed to build professional relation beween local and foreign lecturers,? he said.
Right behind FSM, UPH Business School is now planning to use the system for long distance learning lessons, inviting lecturers from Australia and Canada to teach some spesific topics for the students.
