Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) Lippo Village, Karawaci Tangerang, accepted the arrival of Kapolda Metro Jaya Directorate of Community Development for the socialization of prevention program of radicalism and terrorism in Indonesia. One of the socialization is a seminar held at UPH located at building D 502, on November 28, 2017.

Andre Steawan, the event coordinator, said the importance of the seminar is due to the rampant issues in Indonesia about the various ideology that is not in accordance with Pancasila.

“There are so many issues in Indonesia about the various ideologies that are not in line with Pancasila which is getting stronger to one side especially the understanding of one particular ideology. Here Metro Jaya police chief concerned with it. It is expected that with this seminar, students will know and understand this issue and can take standpoint especially for the students “explained Andre.

Before the seminar begins, Kompol Endang Sukmawijaya, from Kapolsek Kelapa Dua gave a speech, he expressed his hope with this seminar, he expects the students to participate and proactively prevent.

“Considering that the young generation is generally the main target, I told the students to pro-actively eradicate the radicalism in order to maintain the integrity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia, especially in the midst of advancing technology and information. But usually people who are susceptible and looking for an identity, quiet, discreet etc. are susceptible to incitement, “said Endang.

This seminar was presented by AKBP Dra. Yulia Hutasuhut – Kasubdit Kerma Dit. Binmas who describes some of the characteristics of Islamic radical groups such as; intolerance, fanatical, exclusive and revolutionary. He also emphasized the dangers of radical-impacted people, who have sudden anti-social characteristics, spending time with undisclosed communities, severing communications with their families, and also showing religious attitudes and actions in general.

“I urge the students to be alert and not easily receive information and news ? especially news on social media through the internet that is so vibrant and easily accessed quickly and cheaply. I hope students have a filter for that. To be more care and not apathetic to the environment and friends. If you look at the traits that have been described in order to act immediately and report it, you can go to the Senate, lecturer, and campus or to the nearest police so that we can prevent any progress of radicalism early on. The participation of these students is expected very much”, said Julia.

The seminar which is also a collaboration with UPH Student Life Department was attended by about 300 students from various faculties as well as some Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa(BEM) UPH. Student Life Department which specializes in student affairs program hopes that through the presence of BEM management can be a partner in disseminating this information to all students, through their respective institutions such as BEM, MPM (Student Representative Assembly), HMJ (Student Association) and various Student activity units.

Through this seminar, it is expected that the students will be more proactive and have a filter to actively participate in preventing and tackling the problem of radicalism. ™
