The Mathematics major at Faculty of Science and Technology (FaST) Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) establishes partnership with Dordt College (DC), USA, for the two-semester student exchange program. The MoU sigining was held on 27 March 2015 by Dr. Erik Hoestra, President of Dordt College and Raymond Liu, President of UPH at UPH Main Campus, Karawaci. This agreement is valid for five years and specifies numerous areas of potential cooperation, including student exchanges and organization of joint academic and scientific activities, courses, and conferences.

This cooperation is a realization of the meeting between DC and FaST UPH on last October 2013. As the result of this MoU, the students of Mathematics UPH, especially Actuarial Mathematics, could take Actuarial courses at Dordt College, USA. During the two semester, they could take 9 Statistics and Business courses, which are 6 credits for Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) certificate and 3 remaining courses prepare students for 3 actuarial certifications from Society of Actuary, US.

?Through this program, we do hope to add value for the Actuarial program offered by UPH, which are knowledge, ideas and international experiences. This will give various benefits for the students. While the Actuarial programs in Indonesia are still very few and more expensive, this program offers more affordable fees instead. Dordt College also has a good reputation in Actuarial Science and owns comfortable and secure environment for studying so the parents should have no worries to send their kids to DC,? explained Dr. Helena Margaretha, M.Sc., the Associate Dean of Faculty of Science and Technology UPH.

Dr. Kie V Ivanky Saputra, the Head of Applied Mathematics who also attended the MoU signing hopes to get more prospective students interested in Actuarial UPH. Nevertheless, this program will also open for all majors in Mathematics UPH. Besides all the benefits explained above, the students who could finish all credits in the program will automatically get three certifications for Actuarial profession. Therefore, the students will no longer need to take 3 certification exams out of 10 by the Society of Actuary, US, because the courses are already included in the programs offered by DC. Our first criteria for choosing partner institutions around the world is a common commitment to integration of Biblical truth and faith in Christ into academic programs.  UPH has a long-standing commitment to those principles, so we are confident that this partnership will be strong and founded on building up students to build up God?s Kingdom. Overall, we hope that the students participating in this exchange program will be more prepared to serve God in a future context as globally prepared graduates.”
