Jonathan L. Parapak, UPH Rector, opened the National Seminar with a speech. “It is an honor for the Foreign Ministry to choose UPH as the first private university in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in organizing a national seminar on international treaty law. This seminar is very important because the existence of our country internationally is very important for the future. I myself, had the opportunity to undergo a one-period task in the negotiations of the World Trade Organization and the World Tourism Organization, participating specifically in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), so I feel the importance of the legal aspects related to these international agreements,” said Rector.

In his remarks, he also introduced UPH to the participants from global campus through cooperation programs with prestigious universities around the world. Thus, the theme is regarded as a very important value to be observed by UPH. At the end of his speech, he emphasized that this seminar should be given considerate attention since it is beneficial to the Indonesian society and in order that one day, Indonesian presence would be able to receive the whole world?s attention.

The seminar was followed by a keynote speech from Ambassador Ferry Adamhar, Director General of Law and International Treaties. He expressed his appreciation to UPH on the excellent cooperation that this seminar can eventually be executed smoothly. In his speech, he stressed that the international treaty law-making process is very important and should be based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution Act. The ever-increasing number of International Treaty Act or International Conferences that are ratified by Indonesia makes the existence of Act No. 24 of 2000 becomes very important as the rule of law and legal guidelines regarding clear international agreement.

“The law of international agreements in Indonesia also needs to always be consistent with the principles of international law. We also have not interpret the dynamics that take place in our constitutional realm to see and assess the positive provisions that regulate the procedure of making and ratificating international treaties. This development would need to be addressed wisely by all parties to find a formula that can initiate the wheels of government and the presence of Indonesia in the world in order to better, and to prevent practical and juridical problems in a later date “, said Ferry Adamhar.

This national seminar was divided into three sessions with different focus topics. The first session was held at 10:00 am, presenting Ambassador Dr. Eddy Pratomo, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia for Germany for the period of 2009-2013 and Prof. Dr. Bintan R.
