On Wednesday, December 18, 2013, the joyous atmosphere of Christmas could be felt at Sekolah Dasana Indah that is located approximately 5 km from Universitas Pelita Harapan. That day, UPH held a Christmas Service which was attended by UPH Rector Jonathan L. Parapak, Vice Rector Connie Rasilim, UPH lecturers and staff together with the leader of Yayasan Pembinaan dan Pendidikan Generasi Bangsa Indonesia Drg. Andy Indra Gunawan, the headmaster of Sekolah Dasana Indah as well as the students of the school.

The rainy weather at that time did not hinder the serenity of the service. In his preach, Rev. Polo Situmorang relayed a message from John 3:16, about the ?Miracle of Love?. He preached the three ways to know God?s love for us: to notice the sin in ourselves, to understand that there is no way for human to redeem their own sin and to, and to accept that only God who could save human from their sin. ?In order to experience God?s love, human must put their faith onto God. It means that human truly accept Jesus in theirselves,? Rev. Polo asserted. At the end of his preach, Rev. Polo encouraged the participants to respond to the miracle of God?s love by spreading love and forgiving others.

After the service ended, the Christmas Celebration got livelier with the performance of traditional dances and angklung from the elementary students. In his Christmas message, UPH Rector Jonathan L. Parapak incited a feel of gratefulness for what God has given to them through their families and schools, as well as the spirit to pursue their dream. ?I spent my childhood growing up as a country boy. Before high school, I had never worn any kind of footwear and I did not have my school uniform. After the school finished, I still had to herd the cows. But, I managed to pursue my education to Australia and entrusted to take an important position in the government. Until now, I still do not understand how things could turn out, however, all of these can happen because of His grace. So, I am sure that all of you here can do the same,? said Parapak, followed with applause from teachers and students.
