Taking place at Hotel Aryaduta Jakarta, Vice Chancellor and President of Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University ? Professor Margaret Gardner AO held a social function with Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) as well as parties that have helped RMIT engagement in Indonesia higher education field. In this opportunity, Professor Margaret explained RMIT contribution, both in present-day and future, for Indonesia education and research fields.

RMIT ? established since 1887 ? is a renowned educational institute in Australia. With three campuses in Melbourne as its bases, two campuses in Vietnam, and a centre in Barcelona, RMIT has more than 80.000 students studying under its curriculum. Out of 80.000 students, approximately 30.000 of them are international students who are studying at RMIT networks outside Australia.

RMIT is focusing to create solutions that can change the future for the betterment of people and environment. In Indonesia, RMIT is planning to contribute in the development of economy and social fields, expanding RMIT networks in Asia and providing opportunities for both students and staff alike.

To achieve this purpose, RMIT choose UPH as its partner relationship in Indonesia. Professor Margaret chooses UPH because both of these universities have different philosophy and system of education. UPH has liberal art studies while RMIT focuses on technology and design fields; Professor Margaret believes that the combination of both can create a better education. ?UPH has the quality and the capacity for RMIT international curriculum,? she added.

Through this cooperation, RMIT open joint-degree program in four UPH majors ? three majors from Faculty of Business and one major from Faculty of Communication Science – that has started since August. ?RMIT and UPH will provide a combination of UPH quality education and RMIT international education so that students can get a high-quality international education here in Jakarta. Students can also have the chance to spend some time to study in RMIT Melbourne or other countries that have RMIT networks,? said Professor Margaret. (lau)
