City Farm Prison, a prison architectural design, which was planned to be built at Tanah Abang, in the middle of urban crowd. City Farm Prison, made by Amanda Gracia, an Architecture 2009 student, was exhibited in ?place.MAKING? event at dia.lo.gue Artspace, Kemang, Jakarta. This public exhibition was the second public exhibition held by Architecture major, UPH.
City Farm Prison was a work from UPH architecture studio with ?anti-urban? topic. ?Anti-urban topic challenges the students to think about a different building, in contrast with the environment?, said David Hutama, Head of Architecture Department, UPH. ?The building, I made it round in order to be effective, so the jail will be along the circle and the wardens will be in the middle of the circle, so it will be easier for the wardens to watch the prisoners?, Amanda said. On that area, Amanda also planned to provide land to support the prisoners? activity, such as land for farming in the middle of urban crowd. When she was asked about the possibility of the prisoners to escape from the prison, she said that she had already thought about the tight security system.
The landscape of the prison A visitor looking at other works
Not only the unique City Farm Prison, there were still many other architectural works from the students showed in this event, such as A Writer?s House, Blurring Boundaries, A Film Director?s House, and Glodok Pedestrian Bridge. Mrs. Angel Tanzil, as the owner of dia.lo.gue Artspace also supported this exhibition. ?dia.lo.gue, as its name, dialogue, aims to have a dialogue with the society through the works showed in this gallery. Dia.lo.gue also has educative mission, so why not we give these junior architects a chance to interact with the society by providing a place for them?, she said. This exhibition was also attended by talented architects, such as Willis Kusuma and Andra Matin.

Place.MAKING exhibition was the second public exhibition that was held outside UPH, aimed to show about architectural education to public more broadly. ?Architecture major focusing on design method with a good understanding about tectonics, not only about the idea or structure, but something integrative?, David Hutama explained. The first exhibition was held in 2009 at Mall Grand Indonesia, as a part of Jakarta Architeture Triennalle. This second exhibition also aimed to show the development of learning process at Architecture major itself. ?This exhibition is also a medium for us to get together with other professionals, open up to criticism in order to develop better,? said Prof. Dr. Ir. Manlian A. Ronald, MT, IAI, as the Dean of Faculty of Design and Planning UPH.
This exhibition will be held for 2 weeks, started from Saturday, July 7 2012 until Sunday, July 22 2012 at Dia.lo.gue Artspace, Jln.
