Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) founder James T. Riady said that to be a sucessful man, a person must have a vision. ?He can see much further and deeper than anybody else,? explained him in one of the seminars of Leadership Training Program for Gerakan Pemuda Ansor held at UPH on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.

In this training attended by approximately 90 Ansor members, James Riady told that the world is facing many problems right now although it looks okay at the surface. ?Two third of the world is now sick. America, Europe, Japan are all sick,? he told. ?Indonesia at the surface has incredible progress. However, if we see deeper and further, there are many problems such poverty and unemployment,? he added.

To overcome these problems, a basic change is needed. We need young people who dare to make a change. People?s mind set need to be altered. Nowadays, what is right has been twisted and replaced with what is good. No one has the courage to stand up for what is right. Action is also important.

According to him, to make a change, someone must change the way people think with the right system and has fighting spirit. ?We must be loyal to small little things,? Riady stated.

Regarding Indonesia, Riady regretted the fact that subsidy focus on the goods. Subsidy should focus on the people. If the subsidy focus on the goods, rich people will enjoy it too though they actually do not need it.

In addition, the education in Indonesia needs to be addressed. These days, the education only focus on the memory whereas the most important part of education is the learning process. According to Riady, education must cover knowledge, faith, and character.

The seminar was held on the last day of the Ansor leadership training week. This was the first leadership training for Ansor. (dee)
