Athalia Karima Yedida Soemarko and Catherine Setiawan from the Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) Faculty of Law Moot Court team took fourth place out of 35 participants in the Best Speakers category at the Asia Cup 2011, an international moot court competition hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo, Japan, and held August 20-23, 2011. The UPH Moot Court Team that also includes Selvana Stella and Reagen Mokodompit was one of two teams representing Indonesia at the Asia Cup. After three months of training with coach Jessica Los Banos and advisor Wih Irham, the four-member team traveled to Tokyo to compete against 10 other teams from 8 countries, including Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. Before the competition, the team members prepared a memorial regarding the issue of human rights, which was then assessed during the first round of the competition. Although the team had to sacrifice their three-month holiday to prepare, their training program paid off. The team mentioned that UPH and the lecturers gave them helpful support while they were training. ?Our library has a complete collection of books, and those resources really help our research. If we need special books that are rare and difficult to find, the library helps us get those books. The process is simple, and it helps a lot,? Catherine explained. UPH moot court teams have participated in the Asia Cup four times, and this team hopes to represent Indonesia next year. Moreover, the team has a winning record and will continue to participate in other national and international moot court competitions. ?In November, we plan to join the International Humanitarian Law moot court competition,? Athalia said. (dee) UPH Media Relations |
