LaDawn Johnson, MSW from the Biola University discussed about social inequilities with the UPH lecturers. |
As the social inequality increases significantly, UPH Faculty of Liberal Arts held a seminar entitled ?Social Inequalities: My Place and Social Responsibility?, on Friday, July 8, 2011 at UPH Library Seminar Room. This seminar was attended by 15 UPH lecturers.
This seminar invited LaDawn Johnson, MSW from the Biola University as the speaker. The seminar discussed about inequality between ?core countries? and ?peripheral countries?. ?The inequality can occur because of the negative impact from the globalization and now the inequality gap more extends? said LaDawn. In this world many imbalances happened, we can see branded expensive products from the ?core countries? but there are also low-paid workers from the ?developing countries.? In Indonesia, there are farmers who are working so hard to harvest rice, but on the other side imported rice enters easily even with a lower price. It is so miserable for the Indonesian people, especially for the small entrepreneurs. With these social inequalities, what should we do? LaDawn suggested five ways: by fair trade, boycotting, spreading the Word, pray, and advocate others. |

We can start from our family because responsibility begins with ourselves,? said her. She also encouraged us to love the domestic products to reduce the social inequalities occured in this world.
