Some of the UPH students organized the seminar entitled ?Eyes for the World? (Mata untuk Dunia) as their final project for the Character Development subject. This seminar was held on Friday, July 8, 2011 at UPH building D501 and attended by approximately 200 participants.
The seminar was divided into 2 sessions. ?How to use and maintain eyes health properly?? (Bagaimana Menggunakan dan Menjaga Kesehatan Mata dengan Baik?) was the first theme for the first session with Dr. Cosmos Simangunsong, SpM and Fatma Asyari, SpM, Head of Indonesian Eyes Bank – Ketua Bank Mata Indonesia as the speakers, and Yenny Mukti as the moderator. The second session, themed ?Being a donor eyes? Who?s afraid?? (Menjadi Donor Mata? Siapa Takut?) with Ev. Ir. Parulian Marpaung, MACC, Ir. Untung Wididi, and Pandita Utama Suhadi as the speakers. Eyes are the most important sensory organ, 70% of information from world oustide enter through the eyes. Eyes determine the quality of life, quality of work, and the quality of happiness of each person. But, the eyes health is often neglected. ?90% of eyes diseases can be detected early and prevented? said Dr. Cosmos. He also gave ?5 Minutes to Keep the Eyes Health? tips. ?We can always check our eyes in the morning for 5 minutes. First, check for sharp eyesight by see at the clock or calendar. Second, check the eye pressure by giving a mild pressure on the eyeball when closed, and the last check for appearance of the eyeball by look at the mirror?, said Dr. Cosmos. ?The eyes belong to us, that is our responsibility to protect it. Eyes are expensive? added Fatma. |

Besides seminar, UPH students also provided free eye examination and glasses for all the participants. ?This event was great; I got a lot of information here. How to maintain eyes health, use the glasses, and also contact lens? said Ibeth, one of the participant from UPH. (pty)
