Jamin Ginting, a lecturer in the Faculty of Law, UPH, and a legal practitioner, recently launched his book entitled ‘Selected Readings on Corruption in Indonesia: The Decisions of Indonesia Supreme Court? in four series. This launching and discussion book was held in Graha Niaga Function Hall on Thursday, 26 August 2010.

Deputy Chairmen of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Chandra Hamzah, which also serves as a speaker at the book launch, welcomed the step of academics or researchers like Jamin Ginting, who want to spend his time for collecting and reviewing relevant Supreme Court rulings of corruption cases. He also said Indonesia is still having minimal culture to review the verdict.

Overall there are four conclusions can be drawn from this book, which are the imposition of the defendant law was not given at the maximum level, the decision of the Chief Justice did not provide the deterrent effect, Justice also did not pay attention to aspects of loss and replacement of losses in state and Supreme Court Justices are influenced by others factors in reviewing and deciding cases of corruption.

At the end, the books by Jamin Ginting are expected to become one of the conceptual contributions that provide a better understanding about Indonesian law, especially concerning in corruption. (feb)
