Jakarta (18/11) ? Conflict of The State Police of Republic of Indonesia (POLRI) and Corruption Eradication Commission (Komisi Pemberantas Korupsi ? KPK) which are exposed to the public through the mass media became hot news in recent weeks. According to a political communications expert Tjipta Lesmana, if the conflict still exists, it will make the conflict even worse. “I saw that everyone was talking about this conflict, except for entrepreneurs. Almost everyone said that this issue should not be prolonged because it will affect the business climate.”
Departure from these conditions, Master Program in Communication of Pelita Harapan University held a public seminar titled “The Conflict between POLRI against KPK and the Impact on Business Climate in Indonesia” at The Aryaduta Hotel Jakarta, Wednesday (18/11).
The seminar presents four speakers from business circles, Sofyan Wanandi (APINDO Chairman), Chris Kanter (Vice-Chairman of KADIN), John Palinggi (ARDIN Chairman) and Adrianus Mooy (UPH Senior Advisor). Along in this seminar there held an open dialogue that is guided by Tjipta Lesmana.
According to Chris Kanter, despite the steps taken by the government has received positive response from the community, but corruption is still considered the number three problem in this country. “Regardless of what we’ve done, seen from the business climate, our judicial system, it is still far from comfortable investment climate.” Kanter said.
As an investor Kanter saw corruption is exists in Indonesia. No matter whether it is in the KPK, POLRI, or prosecutors. “Government is not governing, but floating the issue. The most important thing that investors need legal certainty,” said Kanter.
Likewise, Mooy said the conflict could drag on legal uncertainty. He likened corruption as cancer. So how to combat corruption without destroying the good persons. Therefore according Mooy, who once served as Governor of Bank Indonesia, the government must take quick decisions in order to create comfort in the economic sector.
Sofyan Wanandi also assumes that the problem of KPK-POLRI destroyed all economic levels. “In this kind of situation, I would hold myself to make investments. It?s not the duty of employers to encourage government. Let the professionals do their job,” he said.
Another speaker, John Palinggi, concluded the impact of this issue to various parties, including in the business world, corruption will make the businessmen more carefully, encouraged people to hate corruption, and raising awareness to respect the institution. (ros/sar/cyn)
